SALEM, Ore. – Corban University Athletic Director Twiggs Reed announced on Monday that the Warriors would be adding two varsity programs, with men's and women's lacrosse officially joining the sporting slate in the fall of 2019 at Corban.
"This is an exciting time for Corban University and our athletic department," said Reed. "Lacrosse has been the fastest growing sport in America for the past 20 years, and it is a part of our strategic plan to increase student enrollment as well as to bring high-character, Christ-centered students to our campus. I'm excited for the future of Corban Athletics, and I'm thrilled with the addition of these two teams!"
The addition of these two programs bring Corban's total varsity teams to 16. It joins men's wrestling as one of three new varsity athletic programs that begin in the fall of 2019 at Corban.
"We are ecstatic about bringing men's and women's lacrosse to Corban," said Corban University President Sheldon Nord. "It provides a fantastic opportunity for Christian lacrosse players to come to a University where they can learn about how to make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ while getting to play the sport that they love, and that is something we believe is very exciting."

Birmingham, AL—The increasing popularity of women's lacrosse has expanded into the Gulf South Conference, as the league officially announced that it will be adding the sport to its sponsorship list for 2015-16.
The GSC Presidents agreed to move forward with the addition of women's lacrosse at its annual business meeting this past June and the addition was made official when the University of Montevallo and Young Harris College signed on as affiliate members last week.
"Women's lacrosse has consistently been one of the fastest growing sports in the NCAA for a number of years and we are excited to provide championship and award opportunities for these student-athletes in the Gulf South Conference," GSC Commissioner Matt Wilson said. "Our Board of Directors believes this is a sport that makes sense for the GSC and I anticipate seeing more regional Division II programs in the next four or five years."

BALTIMORE — A record total of 722,205 players competed on organized lacrosse teams in 2012, as reported in the annual US Lacrosse Participation Report released today. The growth rate from last year (683,730) was 5.5 percent, marking the ninth straight year of at least five percent growth.
More than half of the participants (389,275) compete at the youth level, representing a 7.8 percent growth rate from last year. Roughly 65 percent of the youth players are boys, but both genders have seen significant increases in participation in recent years. Over the last five years at the youth level, the number of boys playing has increased 62 percent and the number of girls playing has increased 61 percent.
