Columbia, S.C. (January 7, 2025) – In a groundbreaking expansion of its athletic programs, Columbia College is thrilled to announce the addition of men's and women's lacrosse teams, with competition set to begin in February 2026. This marks a significant milestone for Koala Athletics as the college continues to grow its legacy of excellence and opportunity in sports.
"This is an incredible moment for Koala Athletics," said Glen Crawford, Director of Athletics. "Adding men's and women's lacrosse allows us to elevate our athletics program while bringing more energy and enthusiasm to our campus. Lacrosse is a fast-growing sport with a passionate following, and we're proud to join this movement right here at Columbia College."
Columbia College has built a strong tradition of athletic achievement, with numerous teams earning regional and national recognition in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA). By introducing lacrosse, the College aims to enrich the student experience, promote athletic diversity, and strengthen its sense of community pride.

MARIETTA, Ga. ---- Life University Director of Athletics Jayme Pendergast announced the addition of women's flag football and men's lacrosse for the 2023-24 season Wednesday afternoon. With the growth of new sports within the NAIA, Life University has remained one of the most innovative schools in the country. Women's flag has been identified as an emerging championship sport, while men's lacrosse will soon begin a transition from an invitational to a championship sport. The women's flag football team will join immediately as a member of the Sun Conference.

Over the next few years, the University will also add new club sports
including men's and women's rugby and women's bowling. Bridgeport also anticipates fielding a Sprint Football team as early as the Fall '23 semester.
UB is starting the process of hiring coaches for these new teams so that they may begin recruiting student-athletes. In accordance with NCAA rules, athletic scholarships will be available for men's and women's track and field athletes as well as men's lacrosse athletes beginning with the Fall '22 semester.

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (October 5, 2021) – St. Thomas University (STU) Director of Athletics, Bill Rychel, announces the addition of Women's Lacrosse to the athletic roster. The Bobcats Women's Lacrosse inaugural team will be set to compete in the 2022-23 school year.
"I am excited to provide another opportunity for women to compete at St Thomas," said Rychel. "Lacrosse has continued to grow throughout the country and will be a great addition to our athletic department. I look forward to working with Coach [Candace] Walker to identify our first head coach and launch the program in 2022."
"It's exciting to see lacrosse grow throughout the country at all levels, and the NAIA has experienced rapid growth in the last seven years," stated Brandon Davis, representative of Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA).

Thomas More University President Joseph L. Chillo, LP.D., and Director of Athletics Terry Connor have announced the addition of men's lacrosse to the sports offering in the University's athletic department. Men's lacrosse will be the 29th athletic program at Thomas More, which continues the University's commitment to invest in the student experience.

Multnomah University is excited to announce the newest addition of Men's and Women's Lacrosse to the Athletics Department. The new programs' first seasons are set to start in the fall of 2021.
"I am absolutely thrilled to be able to bring on two more sports to our department!" said Athletic Director Michael Anderson. "Lacrosse is one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and it is gaining more traction in the northwest region and the Cascade Conference."
Other members of the conference who also host lacrosse include Southern Oregon, College of Idaho, Eastern Oregon, and Corban. The NAIA currently houses 33 men's programs and 37 women's programs, and Multnomah University is honored to be a part of the early stages of the sport in this association.
"Exciting news for Multnomah on the addition of men's and women's lacrosse to their athletic offerings," stated CCC Commissioner Robert Cashell. "We are monitoring other schools in the league that either have or are considering adding and if we can get a core group of programs we certainly want to consider sponsoring as CCC sports."

URBANA, Ohio – The Urbana University Department of Athletics announced it will add two sports with the revival of women's lacrosse and the addition of women's water polo. Both sports will begin competition in 2020-21.
Urbana Blue Knights Athletics will expand to 23 combined NCAA Division II varsity and club sports, which also includes the additions of acrobatics & tumbling, men's wrestling and men's volleyball in the past two years. UU will now feature 12 total women's varsity and club programs.
The Blue Knights will compete among six women's lacrosse teams in the Mountain East Conference, where it finished sixth in 2015 and fifth in 2016. UU discontinued women's lacrosse in 2016 after going 10-73 in six seasons of NCAA DII competition.
"I am excited to bring women's lacrosse back to Urbana University," Executive Vice President/CEO Dr. Christopher Washington said. "My enthusiasm is fueled by UU alumni who played lacrosse and went on to become intercollegiate coaches at other universities. I expect that women's lacrosse will attract scholar-athletes, promote healthy lifestyles, foster growth in leadership and teamwork skills, and encourage the pursuit of excellence that challenges them to reach their full potential."

BATESVILLE, Ark. – Lyon College President Dr. W. Joseph King announced the addition of men's lacrosse and introduced the team's new head coach, Monty Curtis, at a press conference Thursday, December 6.
The College will apply for membership in the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA), a league of eight college lacrosse conferences. Lyon will petition to join the MCLA's Lone Star Alliance (LSA), which consists of teams in Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Texas. The team would start competing in 2021 with potential for NAIA affiliation in the future.
The sport's new coach, Curtis, has more than two decades of experience in coaching lacrosse, and has helped to move a college team to national affiliation before. Curtis, a charter member of the Southwestern University lacrosse team, was a player, coach, and faculty adviser for the program in Georgetown, Texas. He coached the team to its first win, as well as its first Southwest Lacrosse Association (SWLA) Championship. The SWLA was the precursor to the LSA Conference. Curtis also served as league president during his tenure with the Southwest Lacrosse Association. Curtis left Southwestern with a 70-56 record.

Culver-Stockton College Athletic Director Pat Atwell has named Caitlin Erickson the first head coach of the newly developed women's lacrosse program. The Wildcats are expected to begin competition during the 2020 spring season.
"We are very excited that Caitlin Erickson has agreed to be our inaugural women's lacrosse coach," said Atwell. "She has the connections in the St Louis area that should provide an outstanding recruiting base for her."
Erickson comes to Culver-Stockton after spending the last 17 months as the girl's program director at St. Louis LAX, which offers lacrosse leagues each summer, fall and winter season in the St. Louis area.
Erickson was previously the head coach of the women's lacrosse and field hockey teams at Lindenwood University in Belleville, Ill., from January of 2016 to June of 2018.

SALEM, Ore. – Corban University Athletic Director Twiggs Reed announced on Monday that the Warriors would be adding two varsity programs, with men's and women's lacrosse officially joining the sporting slate in the fall of 2019 at Corban.
"This is an exciting time for Corban University and our athletic department," said Reed. "Lacrosse has been the fastest growing sport in America for the past 20 years, and it is a part of our strategic plan to increase student enrollment as well as to bring high-character, Christ-centered students to our campus. I'm excited for the future of Corban Athletics, and I'm thrilled with the addition of these two teams!"
The addition of these two programs bring Corban's total varsity teams to 16. It joins men's wrestling as one of three new varsity athletic programs that begin in the fall of 2019 at Corban.
"We are ecstatic about bringing men's and women's lacrosse to Corban," said Corban University President Sheldon Nord. "It provides a fantastic opportunity for Christian lacrosse players to come to a University where they can learn about how to make a difference in the world for Jesus Christ while getting to play the sport that they love, and that is something we believe is very exciting."
