QUEENSBURY — SUNY Adirondack will add men's lacrosse to its intercollegiate athletic programs starting in spring 2019.
The college expects to hire a head lacrosse coach this spring to begin building the program and spreading interest.
The team will compete in the NJCAA Region III and the Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference. The college has had an informal men's lacrosse club for several years.
In a release, SUNY Adirondack Athletic Director Jonathan Sisk noted that many high schools in the college's service area have boys lacrosse programs, and that the college adding this sport will give players a chance to compete locally at the next level.

MARIETTA, Ga. – Life University Director of Athletics Jayme Pendergast announced the addition of Women's Lacrosse to the Running Eagles athletics department on Tuesday. The program will begin its inaugural season in the spring of 2019.
"We are very excited to add Women's Lacrosse to our expanding athletic department," said Pendergast. "Lacrosse will bring a sport to LIFE's campus that is not only growing in the state of Georgia, but nationally. Lupo Family Field will serve as a beautiful facility for competition and I'm looking forward to adding such an exciting sport that is emerging in the NAIA."
The sport is rapidly growing with 32 schools currently competing in the NAIA. While Women's Lacrosse is currently an invitational sport, it will transition to a national championship sport once a minimum 40 schools sponsor Women's Lacrosse programs.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the addition of women's lacrosse as its 18th varsity sport on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cardinals will begin NCAA Division III competition in 2018-19 and will compete in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). Plattsburgh State's addition of women's lacrosse means that all 10 SUNYAC schools will now sponsor the sport.
The rest of the SUNYAC includes The College at Brockport, Buffalo State, SUNY Cortland, Fredonia, SUNY Geneseo, SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Oneonta, Oswego State and SUNY Potsdam.
"I am beyond thrilled to make this announcement today," said Plattsburgh State director of athletics Mike Howard. "The addition of women´s lacrosse has been a point of discussion for many years here at Plattsburgh and was certainly high on my list of priorities when I accepted this position as the director of athletics in June. This program complements all of our existing programs extremely well and positions us well as we look to expand our recruiting footprint throughout the entire Northeast. The sport of lacrosse is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing sports on the high school level, and I am hopeful that this program, similar to all of our other Cardinal teams, will play a key leadership role in the continued growth of the game at the youth and high school level in our region. It also provides a tremendous opportunity for young women who are looking seriously at SUNY Plattsburgh and are passionate about continuing to play the sport they love. It's a win-win situation for all of us."

NEWARK, Del. - - The Wilmington University athletic department is proud to announce the addition of men's lacrosse to its expanding family starting competition in the spring of 2018.
The added sport will bring Wilmington's total up to 14 varsity programs.
Men's lacrosse has long been a staple in the Mid-Atlantic and is a continuing trend in Delaware. Being located along the I-95 corridor, Wilmington University will look to add to the East Coast bias and help the expansion of already rapidly growing sport.
"It's an exciting time for the athletic department with the addition of men's lacrosse," Director of Athletics Linda Van Drie-Andrzjewski said. "Not only does it mean growth within the department here at Wilmington, it means growth within the CACC and the sport of men's lacrosse in state of Delaware."

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo President John W. Stewart III recently announced the addition of men's lacrosse as the 18th intercollegiate sport. Men's lacrosse will become the eighth men's intercollegiate sport at the University. It is the seventh intercollegiate sport added at the University in the past four years.
"I would like to thank the University Board of Trustees and President Stewart for approving men's lacrosse," said Athletic Director Mark Richard. "The lacrosse community continues to expand on the national landscape and in the state of Alabama and we're excited to be part of the sport's growth." Maryville University Director of Athletics Marcus Manning has announced the addition of men's lacrosse as a varsity sport for the 2016-17 academic year. The additional team increases the number of Maryville's NCAA Division II championship sports to 21. The first season of Saints men's lacrosse begins spring of 2017.
"The addition of men's lacrosse to Maryville is another strategic step in providing new opportunities for prospective student-athletes that fits within the fabric of Maryville's campus community," Manning said. "Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing team sports in the country; we are excited to create another NCAA DII program in the Midwest region and for the St. Louis Metropolitan area."

NAIA Looking to Add Lacrosse Invitational in 2017

Ottawa University is excited to be a part of a quickly growing and widely-popular sport -- men's and women's lacrosse. The NAIA lacrosse coaches' association and the NAIA national office are looking at ways to take this sport -- which carries the 'emerging sport' status -- to the next level. If the sport meets certain benchmarks and passes through the appropriate process, that next step could be a national invitational in the 2017 season.
As outlined in the NAIA's October webinar, men's lacrosse had 23 varsity and 15 club teams at the NAIA level while women's lacrosse had 20 varsity and six club teams in April of 2014. To be considered for an Invitational by the NAIA there must be 25 sponsoring institutions, a sports manual, and it has to be approved by the National Administrative Council. With a number of NAIA institutions adding lacrosse in the past nine months, the number of teams should easily surpass association requirements this coming April.

QUINCY, Ill. – The Quincy University athletic department announced Tuesday (May 13) the addition of a women's swimming program that will begin competition in the 2015-16 academic year. The department also announced that it will add a women's lacrosse program, which will launch in 2017-18.
The department will begin a coaching search for women's swimming in the coming weeks with the aim of having the coach in place to recruit and build the foundation of the program during the 2014-15 school year.
"We are very excited to launch our women's swimming program," said QU director of athletics Marty Bell. "We have received a great deal of interest on this front from a local level and feel the time is right to begin expanding our athletic offerings at the University. With eight other GLVC members sponsoring women's swimming, it allows QU to connect regionally with prospective student-athletes, as well as high school and club programs."
Quincy will be the ninth school in the Great Lakes Valley Conference to sponsor women's swimming after the University of Missouri-St. Louis reinstated its program for 2014-15. The conference also features Drury University and Truman State University, which have combined to win 17 of the last 18 national championships in women's swimming and diving. Drury this season claimed the inaugural GLVC Swimming & Diving Championship and won its fifth national championship in six years.

Pace Adds Women's Lacrosse

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y.– Director of Athletics Mark Brown has announced the expansion of the Pace Athletics Department with the additions of Women's Lacrosse and Women's Field Hockey. These new programs will allow more female athletes to participate in Pace's sports program and will ensure that the department is more closely aligned with federal Title IX regulations. The expansion of the Pace Athletics sport opportunities will coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Pace University Pleasantville campus as well as the revitalization of the University's Pleasantville campus beginning this fall.
The new women's lacrosse program will begin a national search for a head coach later this month with the first year of the program slated to begin in the spring of 2015. A national search for a head coach for the women's field hockey program will commence in early 2014 and competition will start in the fall of 2015. Construction of the new multi-purpose turf field will begin in spring 2015 and is scheduled to be completed by August 2015.

North Greenville University (DII SC) Adds Lacrosse

Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville athletic department will grow by three sports starting during the 2014-2015 calendar year, with the addition of men’s volleyball, as well as men’s and women’s lacrosse.
The North Greenville athletic program currently boasts 16 men’s and women’s varsity teams, including 15 which compete in Conference Carolinas competition. The three new teams will also compete in the conference.
North Greenville will be the tenth Conference Carolinas affiliated institution to add men’s volleyball, a sport in which division’s I-III compete against each other. The Trojans of Mount Olive College took home the Conference Carolinas title in 2014, while UC Irvine and Springfield University reeled in national championships.

INDIANAPOLIS — Women’s rowing is one of three Division I sports whose championship brackets will expand in 2013. In August, the NCAA Executive Committee approved a budget that included a recommendation from the Division I Championships/Sport Management Cabinet to expand championships in the Football Championship Subdivision, women’s lacrosse and rowing.
The two women’s sports will expand their brackets in the spring of 2013, while the FCS bracket will expand in the fall of 2013. The FCS bracket will grow from 20 to 24 teams in 2013, while the women’s lacrosse bracket will increase from 16 to 26 teams and rowing moves from 16 to 22 teams in the spring.

Muskingum University is proud to announce that men’s and women’s lacrosse will be added as a varsity sport beginning in the 2014-15 academic year. Muskingum joins seven other Ohio Athletic Conference schools in adding lacrosse, which has been the fastest-growing team sport in America over the past decade.
“It’s always exciting to offer additional athletic opportunities to our student-athletes,” said Muskingum Athletic Director Larry Shank. “Adding lacrosse will enhance Muskingum and showcase our university to a greater number of high school students.”

INDIANAPOLIS — Women’s rowing is one of three Division I sports whose championship brackets will expand in 2013. In August, the NCAA Executive Committee approved a budget that included a recommendation from the Division I Championships/Sport Management Cabinet to expand championships in the Football Championship Subdivision, women’s lacrosse and rowing.
The two women’s sports will expand their brackets in the spring of 2013, while the FCS bracket will expand in the fall of 2013. Post University (DII CT) Adds Men's Lacrosse

WATERBURY, Conn. – Post University, an NCAA Division II and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) member, announced it will add men's lacrosse as its 17th intercollegiate sport. The Eagles begin practice in 2013, and gain full varsity standing in 2014. Jim Griffin was named the program's inaugural head coach.
Post University will become the third member of the CACC to introduce men's lacrosse. Chestnut Hill and Dominican (N.Y.) are currently the other member institutions which participate in men's lac
rosse. Division II men's lacrosse consists of three regions: Central, North and South. The North region consists of 12 institutions in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. The Eagles will become the only NCAA Division II program in the state of Connecticut.

The NCAA Division I women’s lacrosse tournament bracket could expand from 16 to 24 teams possibly as early as 2013, a move that would eliminate most play-in games.
D’Ann Keller, associate director of championships and alliances for the NCAA, said the expansion has been approved by the Division I championship and sports management cabinet. However, it still has several stages to pass through, including the budget committee, before it becomes certain.
With 91 teams this spring and several more expected in the next few years, there could soon be 13 or 14 conferences with automatic qualifiers up from the current 11. An NCAA bylaw stipulates 50 percent of the bracket must be filled with at-large bids, Keller said, so more AQs would necessitate an additional play-in game, bringing the total to four, unless the bracket is expanded to 24.

All NCAA Division 1 sports face a 10% reduction in competition, but the sports targeted for major cuts through elimination of spring competition are soccer, volleyball, women’s lacrosse, field hockey, softball and cross country. Division 1 football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey, and men’s lacrosse would not be affected by the elimination of non-championship season competition. Nor would Division 2, Division 3 and NAIA schools be affected.
Non-championship season competition refers to non-countable games, basically springtime development games. All of the extended football, baseball and basketball season is constituted as regular season competition and counts on their record. Soccer already has one of the shortest competitive seasons in the NCAA and by eliminating the developmental games, the NCAA further marginalizes the sport.
