North Central College (D3 IL) Adds Men's Lacrosse

Apr. 23, 2015 - North Central College is proud to announce plans to expand the College's athletic department to 25 sports programs with the addition of women's triathlon and men's lacrosse as varsity sports beginning with the 2016-2017 academic year. The addition of the two sports will make North Central's athletic department the largest in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW).

North Central first ventured into the sport of lacrosse with the addition of a women's program in 2007, making the College the first NCAA Division III institution in the state of Illinois to offer women's lacrosse as a varsity sport.

Concordia University (MN DII) Adds Women's Lacrosse

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Concordia University, St. Paul Department of Athletics has announced that women's lacrosse will become the 16th varsity sport for the Golden Bears with the first team set to compete in the 2016-17 academic year.

 A search for a full-time head coach will begin immediately, with the position starting in 2015-16 to establish recruiting, schedules and other day-to-day operations for the new program. Their first competition will take place in Spring 2017. The te
am will compete and train at Sea Foam Stadium and the Concordia Dome. Concordia will become the first university in Minnesota to offer scholarships for NCAA lacrosse and the first institution in the 16-team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) to add the growing sport.

Cleveland State Wrestling Team Restored; Lacrosse Will Be Added

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Cleveland State saved its wrestling team Wednesday. The university announced it will keep and fund wrestling while also adding men's lacrosse in 2016. The school plans to raise student fees $1 per credit hour to assure wrestling's future.

"We're excited," CSU chief marketing officer Rob Spademan said. "The key thing is we as an administration listened to the students, and we figured out a way to do it without a major (fee) increase to the students.''
