Eastern Nazarene College announced Wednesday plans to add men's and women's lacrosse starting in the fall of 2020. During the 2020-2021 academic year, the teams will compete as club programs with NCAA Division III sponsorship beginning in the 2021-2022 academic year.
"I am excited to announce these new additions to the athletic department. Lacrosse has been on the college's radar for a number of years. As one of the fastest growing sports for men and women at both the high school and college levels, plus strong interest from current students on campus, the decision to begin lacrosse at Eastern Nazarene College opens new opportunities for student-athlete participation," said Brad Zarges, Director of Athletics.

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Lewis University Director of Athletics Dr. John Planek announced on Thursday (August 9) that Joe Perruzzi has been hired as the first men's lacrosse coach in Flyer history.
"Our intercollegiate athletic program will welcome our 23rd sport offering with the addition of men's lacrosse starting competition in the 2019-2020 season," Planek said. "I am glad to announce that Joe Perruzzi will be our inaugural head coach. His successful experience at the Division II level along with his energy level will serve us well as we begin to establish our lacrosse program at Lewis University."
Lewis Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management, Marketing and Planning Ray Kennelly was equally as excited about the new Flyer sport addition. "The addition of men's lacrosse, will enhance student life on campus as well as provide additional opportunities for intercollegiate athletic competition," Kennelly said. "This will also help spread the Lewis name to new markets."

Ashland University officials announced on Monday (Sept. 11) that its athletic department will add women's lacrosse and men's tennis as varsity intercollegiate sports, beginning with the 2018-19 school year.
"We have been evaluating the addition of these two sports for the past couple of years as part of our strategic plan to increase enrollment and continue to expand the geographic diversity of our student population," said Dr. Carlos Campo, President of Ashland University. "Ashland remains committed to maintaining a strong program of intercollegiate athletics marked by excellence and spiritual values."

HUNTINGDON, Pa. - Juniata College has elected to add three new varsity sports to its formidable lineup of athletic programs beginning with the fall 2017 season. The college will be adding men’s and women’s golf, plus women’s lacrosse, giving Juniata 22 varsity intercollegiate sports.
“Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the nation for high schools and colleges and many women are seeking opportunities to extend their careers as athletes while receiving a high quality education,” said athletic director and head coach for men’s basketball Greg Curley. “Adding these sports also will allow us to extend our athletic recruiting beyond our traditional reach into states such as Maryland, New York, Virginia and New Jersey. The demographic profile of athletes playing lacrosse and golf fits our academic profile to a T.”

PITTSBURGH, Pa - The Chatham University Athletic Department would like to officially announce that they will be expanding in the 2016-2017 Academic Year by adding both Women's and Men's Lacrosse.
A search for new head coaches will begin immediately, and Chatham will play in the single-sport Ohio River Lacrosse Conferences (ORLC & ORWLC). These were formed in the fall of 2014 when the President's Athletic Conference (PAC) and the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) aligned to create these conferences for men's and women's lacrosse.
Current PAC members Saint Vincent College, Thiel College, Washington & Jefferson College, and Westminster College sponsor men's and women's varsity lacrosse programs, with Bethany College sponsoring a men's program and Waynesburg University and Thomas More College a women's program. In addition, five HCAC member schools will compete in the ORLWC, while four HCAC member schools will compete in the ORLC.
"The addition of women's and men's lacrosse is an example of Chatham's ongoing commitment to the expansion and support of our athletic program," states Athletic Director Leonard Trevino. "We are excited to begin the process of building lacrosse programs that will compete at the highest levels, while continuing our traditions of academic excellence."

Birmingham, AL—The increasing popularity of women's lacrosse has expanded into the Gulf South Conference, as the league officially announced that it will be adding the sport to its sponsorship list for 2015-16.
The GSC Presidents agreed to move forward with the addition of women's lacrosse at its annual business meeting this past June and the addition was made official when the University of Montevallo and Young Harris College signed on as affiliate members last week.
"Women's lacrosse has consistently been one of the fastest growing sports in the NCAA for a number of years and we are excited to provide championship and award opportunities for these student-athletes in the Gulf South Conference," GSC Commissioner Matt Wilson said. "Our Board of Directors believes this is a sport that makes sense for the GSC and I anticipate seeing more regional Division II programs in the next four or five years."

MLL Expands to Atlanta

ATLANTA (August 7, 2015) -Major League Lacrosse Commissioner David Gross today announced the addition of the league's ninth and newest team, the Atlanta Blaze. Based in Kennesaw, Georgia, the Atlanta Blaze will join MLL league play in the 2016 season.
"We are thrilled to welcome the Atlanta Blaze into MLL. This is a market we've spent quite a bit of time in over the past few years and know the fans are hungry for professional lacrosse," said Gross, commissioner of the MLL. "We are sure they are going to love watching the Atlanta Blaze play."
In a press conference on Friday, Gross and team executives announced the new name, Blaze logo, ownership structure and commitment to bring the best lacrosse to Atlanta. In addition, the team announced a plan for free home-game tickets for all local firefighters.
"Given the success of last year's MLL Championship and the tremendous amount of growth around lacrosse in the region - there is a lot of excitement around the sport in Atlanta right now," said Dan Corso, executive director of the Atlanta Sports Council. "We look forward to working with our great partners around the community and MLL, to support the new Atlanta team and help them get acclimated to their new home."

Heidelberg University (DIII OH) Adds Lacrosse

TIFFIN -- Heidelberg University will add both women's and men's lacrosse to its slate of varsity athletic programs, with intercollegiate action beginning during the 2016-17 academic year.
"The popularity of lacrosse expanding in the region, and as a result, the interest to add the sport at Heidelberg is at an all-time high," said athletic director Matt Palm. "With the Ohio High School
Athletic Association adding lacrosse as a sanctioned sport for 2017, the time is right for us."
Heidelberg is the ninth school in the Ohio Athletic Conference to add lacrosse, with the traditional season taking place in the spring.

Lacrosse is traditionally known as an East Coast sport, one played in prep schools in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and in colleges mostly up and down the East Coast. But in recent years, it’s become a sport that’s quickly spreading, starting with Northwestern women’s team taking the first championship away from the traditional powerhouses a decade ago. And now, for the first time in NCAA history, a school west of the Appalachians took home the men’s title with Denver’s decisive victory over the Terps (whose women took home the title last weekend.)'

Even before the University of Indianapolis hired its men’s and women’s lacrosse coaches in June—and almost two years before the Greyhounds play their first game in the spring of 2016—Athletic Director Sue Willey already had fielded some intriguing inquiries.
Wabash College has already landed players from California and Washington, and is also scouring the East Coast and nearby markets.
“I got a call from a mother in Texas,” Willey said. “She was very interested in [the University of Indianapolis] because we’re adding lacrosse.”
