CHICAGO – The University of Chicago announced on Wednesday that women's lacrosse will be added as an intercollegiate sport, with varsity competition slated to commence in the 2018-19 academic year.
"The national growth of women's lacrosse exceeds any other sport and its presence in the Midwest at the Division III level is strong," said Erin McDermott, Director of Athletics & Recreation. "We are very excited to offer another varsity sport to current and prospective students wanting to compete at a high level as part of their University of Chicago educational experience."
With the inclusion of women's lacrosse, UChicago will offer 20 varsity sports (10 men's and 10 women's) that compete at the NCAA Division III level.
