Calvin College and Hope College (D3 MI) Add Men's and Women's Lacrosse

Calvin College will be adding men’s and women’s lacrosse as varsity sports effective with the 2012-13 academic year. The announcement is made in conjunction with the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association which announced today that the league will add men’s lacrosse and women’s lacrosse as varsity conference sports, effective with the 2012-13 season, the 125th anniversary season for America’s oldest collegiate athletic conference. Calvin has been a member of the MIAA since the 1953-54 academic year.

Hope College will begin sponsoring intercollegiate lacrosse for men and women effective with the 2012-13 school year. The addition of these sports at Hope coincides with an announcement by the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) to add lacrosse as varsity sports for both genders on the same timetable.
"We are very excited about the transition of the women's and men's lacrosse programs from club sport to varsity sport status," said Dr. Mark Northuis, chair of the department of kinesiology at Hope.
